CHARACTER INFO

Character Name: Ib
Character Canon: IB

History:
Wiki
Old version script The new version just has a few added lines and a new area.

AU History: (note: permission has been give by Mary's mun to incorporate her into Ib's backstory. Also I would totally be willing to incorporate Garry I have ideas PM me if you're interested or rework anything should someone want to app her parents. )

Ib is the only child of a wealthy couple. Her mother was a Normal type enlightened and her father was an ordinary human. She took after her mother most strongly who pushed her in her studies while her father would get excited anytime she'd show the slightest interest in anything. Since he never had the opportunity to do what he wanted and instead ended up in the family business, he liked to dream about what Ib will become once she grew up.

Her mother saw to it that she'd get the best education possible through private tutors in all the subjects. While Ib was a good student and learned well she never strongly took to one subject or another. But she is still a little kid so there wasn't any pressure put on her to settle into a field yet. There will be time for that later.

One day when Ib was about 7 she had followed a pokemon out into the woods. Then lost track or it when she realized how far from home she had gotten. While wondering, carefully - she knew the forest could be a dangerous place and she wasn't even supposed to be out there - she met another little girl. This girl was about her age and obviously very lost. Mary, as she introduced herself, quickly attached herself to Ib. And together they made their way back to the towers of Union.

In the mean time, her parents were getting very worried. It wasn't like Ib to wander off on her own. She was always so well behaved they scarcely had to remind her of the rules.

When the girls make it back to them her parents were relieved surprised to see this strange girl return home with their daughter. Ib gets a stern talking to about not worrying them like that while they get Mary cleaned up. Then they tried to find out where she came from but she couldn't seem to give them any answers.
In the end they couldn't be too upset with Ib, if she hadn't wandered off who knew what would have became of Mary.

After seeing how well the girls got along it was decided to let her stay with them. Ib finally had a sibling; someone to play with and join in her lessons. Even an adopted one made her feel more like the other kids. Since most everyone else had many siblings.

They lived as a family like that for a couple years until one day, when Ib and Mary were about 9, their parents didn't come home. It was slow to register with Ib, she didn't want to accept that her parents were really gone, and she would often spend long periods of time just staring out the windows or at portraits.

As plans were being made about what to do with the girls (being purposely vague here) Mary suddenly decides that she wants to go off and find her dad. Maybe he would help them. Ib couldn't let her sister go on such a journey alone so she shook off what she could of her sadness and agreed to help no matter how slim the chances of finding him may be. With that goal in mind they became trainers even though they are still quite young.

Canon Personality:
Oh the personality of a silent protagonist... since most of this is gleaned from sprite interactions and short conversations this is probably going to be different from other Ib apps.

Starting with her non-variable traits:

She's quiet and well behaved enough that her parents don't worry about her being a bother to the other visitors at the gallery. Evidenced by how her mom reminds her of the rules but follows it up with "I don't have to worry about that with you" before letting her go off on her own.

When a little boy in the gallery says he wants to pick up the petals from around the rose sculpture, both responses you can pick advise against it:
> I don't think so
> They might get mad

Either way the boy will think Ib is no fun or boring for following the rules.

Through most of the game Ib keeps a brave face. She does such a good job of this that Garry doesn't suspect her true emotions until her break down after seeing a portrait of her parents. From here on out we really get to see that she is in fact a scared, lost little kid, clinging on to the first person she met for any amount of comfort he can offer. Although there were hints of this before when she was still on her own in how she would stop walking at any sound and back away from any movement.

The reason she hid her fears and worries for so long is because she didn't want to be a bother to him. She even apologizes for it after she comes to again.

She also must only be used to speaking seriously because she seems unable to tell when someone is kidding or to kid herself. Could just be that she knows there's a time and a place of this and that is NOT in a gallery that wants you dead.

When it comes to player choices she can be the kind of person who "gets" art or not. Either way you go nothing changes. If she says she doesn't understand when someone asks her about art it doesn't make her dumb since she still has to be smart enough to make it through the math and logic puzzles before meeting Garry. Even after he joins her he isn't too much help with the rest of the puzzles. He's pretty much only good for pushing things. So I conclude from this that Ib is pretty bright for a 9 year old.

There is always an option to STARE or to simply answer with "........"
> Stare back at the congested eyeball
> Stare intently at Garry
> Stare out into the fake lake
> Stand perfectly still under the fake sun
> "........" when Garry calls out to her in the dark

These options make her seem more detached or confused. It makes people uncomfortable or worried about her and usually ends up hurting their bond. The further into the game you get the more these come up which makes me think the art world is slowly breaking her. She also sees creepy dolls as cute bunnies which is interesting but no explanation is given for it.

But no matter how detached or not the player makes her appear she always seems to do things without explaining why.
> using eye drops to heal the eyeball's congestion problem
> laying down the mirror to melt the ice door
> staring out into the water to find the moon

She has a good mind for working out puzzles and just lets her actions do the talking rather than say something. Even when she's got people asking her why or what she's doing she doesn't give an explanation. Just does it and let's it reveal the next step.

The only other option you'll have is to be "bold" or "cautious"
She can do the "safe" thing and NOT pick up objects or press buttons. But then she might never get out of the gallery. So it might be better to break the rules a little.

Choose the safe responses and say:
> I'm fine
> Thank you
> I'm sorry
> Sure

Or she can be a little more brave and let people know that:
> I had a nightmare
> I hurt all over
> It's nice to meet you

And most importantly, she can ask Garry:
> Why do you talk like a lady?

She's not particularly shy about talking (not that she does much talking) or listening to people but she is shy about telling them things. She spends quite a bit of time with Garry but she doesn't tell him anything more than her name until they see the portrait of her parents. It's assumed that she says they're her parents and asks if she'll see them again. After they leave that room and she collapses you start getting the option to open up.

Of course there's always the option to continue staying quiet and staring intently. But that's no fun. Unless you like making Garry uncomfortable but then they can't be friends.

She just needs time to become comfortable with someone. Until then she'll keep an emotional distance.

AU Deviation:
Not much is drastically different. Like in canon Ib is thoughtful and well behaved. Her parents had taught her how to be a proper lady. Since she may never see her parents again it's important to her that she keeps that in mind so she doesn't disappoint them. Making them proud was always important to her. As such Ib rarely acts before thinking.

The major difference is in growing up after nearly the end of humanity she fully knows that people and pokemon can and will eventually die. Which doesn't mean she has the maturity to deal with it in a healthy manner but she knows it's something to keep in mind.

Now with Mary as a sister she feels some amount of responsibility for her. She ties to stick close to her in order to prevent her from getting into trouble or getting hurt.

Canon Abilities: Nothing special. She's brave and smart enough to make it through the gallery and all its traps and puzzles. But she's just a regular 9-year-old kid.

Enlightened Abilities: Analyst. Because she always seems to notice the tiny details and their importance first. She also had good memory recall even if she couldn't read the word she was recalling at the time.

Normal/Grass. Because she slaps people back to their senses and is the red rose.

Ib wouldn't be regarded as a strong enlightened but she's still young and hasn't had much opportunity to manifest powers. On the outset she only has access to a few status moves which she uses to find a short burst of speed or the strength to continue when things start to get too difficult or scary for her normally. As she evolves roses begin to grow in her hair. She gains access to status boosting abilities from the grass part of her typing and becomes more skilled with things like mind reader.

Starter Pokémon: A Budew named Boo

Notes/Special Considerations:

SAMPLES

First-Person: (I answered more than required because Ib doesn't talk much.)

-What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
I want to be friends.

-What do you feel your role in Union is?
... I'm nine.

[if pushed she adds:] To learn.

-To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?
[she's visibly upset by the question.] I couldn't leave them. I wouldn't give up.

-What do you look for in the Pokémon with whom you bond?
If they like me.

-A human has attacked a wild Pokémon who retaliates in defense. How do you respond and whom do you defend?
He shouldn't have done that. [ meaning the human. Her first instinct would be to defend the pokemon but should she assume it's completely innocent? ] I'd try to stop their fighting.

-You are alone and bereft of your Pokémon allies, upon what strengths do you rely on to see yourself safely home?
My teacher said I learn fast. I think I can retrace my steps. [ with her memory and analyst skill ]

-When encountering a rare and powerful Pokémon, what is most important? Researching it, bonding with it, or defeating it? Why?
Bonding. Maybe it could help us.

-No Enlightened chooses their abilities - and not all are Enlightened. What type abilities would you most desire to manifest and why?
Normal. It was my mother's.

Third-Person:
With the sun slowly setting, casting long shadows from the towers in the nearby city, Ib finds a quiet place to sit. Her first day as a trainer is coming to a close. She pats her lap to signal to her companion - a Budew - to come sit with her. The Budew waddles over to her and plops down against her leg. She moves her hand to pat it gently on the bulb.

"You need a name..." She says, suddenly realizing that she'd over looked something so important for so long. But what to call it? Her parents didn't keep a pet so she didn't have much experience with naming things. Not even her dolls had consistent names not that she played with them much.

She pulls a notebook out of her bag and begins scribbling down any name she could think of:

Rose
Rossa
Rosealynd Rosealind

The Pokémon stared curiously up at her as she worked. "Buu~?"

Ib suddenly closed the book and stood up. Walking a few paces away, "Boo, come here." She tries out the new name, holding her arms open and crouching down.

It takes a moment but soon the Pokémon does a little twirl and happily hops into her outstretched arms. Ib smiles and hugs the newly named Pokémon, glad to have that taken care of.

Now with Boo still in her arms she begins walking back to town. They should get home before it gets dark. Her parents wouldn't like it if she stayed out after dark.

If your character is lying in their answer, please identify it as a lie, the purpose of these is to get an idea of how you will play your character in lieu of the other sample options. 4 questions answered can be used as a substitute for a first-person sample, and 6 questions answered can be used as a substitute for a third-person sample. Both samples may be replaced in this manner. If the character doesn't say enough in their answer, we may request a few more answers for an acceptable sample.
